Doors & Trim

Just prior to our asbestos delay in late August, our carpenters Sebastian, Mac, and Luka from Excellent Carpentry hung all our interior doors and installed our interior window casing and door trim, and our two exterior doors.

The job entailed the installation of 13 interior doors — two of which were pocket doors and one of which was a small crawlspace door — and two exterior doors. Our interior doors are from TruStile while our two entryway doors are from Simpson. We retained our original door from the utility room to the garage, the back garage door, and our existing garage overhead door. We sacrificed a bit of thermal efficiency for our two Simpson entryway doors (~R-5 value) because we loved the look of real fir as we really wanted to ensure our entryways fit in with the aesthetic of our community.

Meanwhile downstairs, Luka cut and installed window casing in our kitchen and living room.

Elsewhere, Mac and Sebastian continued to knock out the rest of the interior doors on our 2nd floor: Amy’s office, the “Boolo” office’s door and by-pass closet door, and a new door for our existing 2nd floor bathroom.

After the 2nd floor was finished, the team proceeded to our new master suite to install window casing, the pocket door for Amy’s closet, my closet door, our master bath door, and our toilet room’s pocket door — AND, the grandest of them all, the double door to our master bedroom!

Not an ideal shot of the double master door, but wait until we show this later with hardware and paint on the walls! (that’s my tiny closet in the background)

Amy is famous for parking herself in a room while teams work on different parts of the house. In this video, she gets the ABC and 123 about pocket doors!

Then… what many of you have been asking for… what’s going on with the LANDSCAPE! There is a much larger story to tell here, so in case you missed our first look at the landscape philosophy, check out The Bones of Permanency post from a few weeks ago!
